Enough is enough – say educators

The school is not a dump site for uncontrollable and unruly children

Submitted by an Estcourt educator

A school is not a rehabilitation centre. A teacher is not a nanny. A teacher is not a policeman/woman/security guard. A teacher is not a midwife. A teacher is not a stooge that should be trampled on.

A teacher is not a doormat to wipe dirty and muddy feet on. A teacher is an educator who only specialises in educating your child to learn certain subjects. Teachers are human beings.

Bottom line, it is high time that the teachers’ unions fight for teachers’ rights and protection. Teachers are being sworn at publicly by both learners and parents.

READ THIS: Put yourself in the educator’s shoes

They are assaulted, maimed and threatened by hands and all sorts of weapons that you may think of, including guns.
They are publicly mocked by your children.

It is high time that teachers only teach their subjects and the rest must fall on the parents. Parents must see to it they babysit their moody pregnant daughters and drug-smoking sons. They must see to it that they accompany them when going for excursions.

Parents must solely organise these trips and see to it that everything runs smoothly on these trips. Wearing of uniform and general discipline must now be taken over by parents. Attending school on time must fall on parents’ shoulders.

If the learner is wayward and failing a subject, it is the parent’s responsibility to approach his/her child about his/her behaviour. Teachers must only see to it that they teach their respective subjects and nothing more. A teacher is not a babysitter.

The status quo must change and change now before the worst happens. Children and parents do not deserve that extra favour. A teacher is also someone’s child.

A teacher is a human being trying his/her best to uplift your child’s education. The school is not a dump site for uncontrollable and unruly children. Enough is enough!
