Editor –
So often we criticise and become negative about things around us, and the waiting in endless queues. On August 26 at 10.06pm, I had a sudden power failure at my home at 100 Welsh Road, Estcourt.
I phoned the municipal control centre on 036-352-6464 and within seconds, my call was answered politely and my details were taken down. I was assured that an electrician would be dispatched.

A few minutes later, I received a call from the control centre, informing me that the electrician was at my gate and wanted to check the board at the house. I went out and met a friendly person, Luanda Katise, who introduced himself as the electrician from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality and would be dealing with the complaint.
He was quick to assess the situation and informed me that it was a cable fault between the distribution box on the pavement and my house. We agreed that he could not do anything due to the darkness, but he promised to be back as early as possible to attend to the problem.
He kept his promise and on August 27, he identified the fault and joined the cable. By 10am, the electricity supply was restored.
Thank you, Mr Katise, you are a star for your employer and it is people like you who are building South Africa.
He also mentioned that after my complaint, he was called out another three times and had very little sleep.
To the municipality, look after employees like this. With his dedication, he will receive better offers and we must retain these skills to make our town work.
Please take this into consideration when there are opportunities for promotion in his line of duty.
