Fred van Dyk speeds to victory
A total of 17 of the best rotary racers from across South Africa, including Fred, took to the track in Bloemfontein, determined to leave their opponents behind.
Fred van Dyk has raced into the position of South Africa’s Rotary Shootout champion.

Admitting he found the championships extremely tough and the competition stiff, Fred said he gave it his all and was over the moon with his victory.
“During the last race, one of the other guys tried to take me out. We were on the last lap, the white flag had just been waved when he came from infield,” Fred related.
After a bashing match at high speed, the competitor smashed into the track’s wall, while Fred’s vehicle sustained a broken steering arm and damage to the front.
“I was ahead and he had no chance of winning. After he tried to take me out and because it was the last lap and I would have made it to the finish line first regardless of his attempt, I was awarded the win,” explained Fred.
Having been an avid racer for the past 17 years, Fred said this was the highlight of his racing career.
“I have won club championships, got my Natal Regional colours for racing and I missed out on the South African racing championships by one point. This is a big high for me – the cherry on the cake,” concluded Fred.
