Beside the dam level receding, anglers are experiencing a drought with regard to catches of late.
The VME League 3 fished off at Richgate Park on October 16, produced a major upset when Stillwaters Angling Club topped the league, beating other seasoned teams.
Stillwaters scored an impressive 45 points, followed by Ladysmith Angling Club on 43 points.
Breakwaters has 35 points at this stage, while Challengers and Dannhauser angling clubs are tied on 14 points each.
The current league log standings see Breakwaters on 26 points, Stillwaters and Ladysmith on 20 points apiece, Challengers on 17 points and Dannhauser on five points.
The angler of the day was Sikander Amod of Stillwaters, who scored 15 points and earned the orange cap, trophy and prize money.
He also bagged a barbel of 6,9 kilograms.
The leading angler overall is Yusheer Govender of Ladysmith Angling Club (16 points), who edged out Monty Slabbert on the number of fish caught.
Season titleholders thus far include:
Shane Mangaroo leads the race for the heaviest scaled fish, with a catch of 3,46kg, while Sikander Amod has caught the heaviest non-scaled fish to date, a catch of 6,9kg.
Suvyn Boodhoo can boast a rare catch of a 1,09kg bass.
Veruschka Boodhoo is in contention for the Lady Angler of the Year title, while Dan Govender leads the pack in the Senior Angler of the Year category.
Yusheer Govender is currently number one for the Angler of the Year crown.
The next fixture of the Angling Professional League is the Transnat Knock Out Eliminator at Sandford on November 20.
Title contenders for Breakwaters and Stillwaters include:
Vernon Naidoo for the heaviest scaled fish; Sikander Amod for the heaviest non-scaled fish and highest points scorer; SH Yisa for the heaviest scaly; Fanie Els for heaviest eel, most fish caught and Champion of Champion.
Monty Slabbert is the top pick for League Champion.
Veruschka Boodhoo leads the race for the Lady Angler of the Year, Kidd Rampersadh is in front for the title of Senior Angler of the Year and Wayne Oosthuizen is the man to beat for Angler of the Year.
