Calm waters ahead of new angling season
The season’s top three anglers will also receive fishing vouchers for their efforts.
The Angling Professional League (APL) casts off for its fourth season on August 20.
Its new season gets underway with the first round of the VME League, where Breakwaters will launch its title defence.
Competition will be stiff with a new affiliate in the wings – Glencoe Angling Club.
As in previous seasons, anglers who accumulate the most points on each competition day receive an outright trophy, the esteemed orange cap and R200 in cash.
The purple cap goes to the log leading angler.
Looking ahead to league competition, knock outs and the Grand Challenge, APL management said R500 plus other prizes were up for grabs at every opportunity.
The season’s top three anglers will also receive fishing vouchers for their efforts.
An innovative closed competition has also been introduced by the APL, open only to its affiliates and boasting lucrative prizes on offer.
The APL has also introduced renamed and revamped trophies for its season winners.

Breakwaters and Stillwaters hosted a combined ‘warm’ fixture on August 6, where both clubs contested Round One of the Champion of Champion competition.
The APL commented this was a great start to the season for Monty Slabbert.
As captain of Breakwaters, he scored 12 points to take the lead, followed by Veruschka Boodhoo, Sipho Manyoni and Oosie Oosthuizen on four points apiece, and Rodney Ince on three points.
