‘Villagers’ victorious over Vryheid Rugby Club in Junior Murray Cup final

The final score of 45 - 26, in favour of the Hillcrest squad, subsequently sealed the deal for the victorious 'Villagers' and they won the Junior Murray Cup for the third consecutive year.

VRYHEID Rugby Club players travelled to Durban on Saturday to face off against the Land Rover Durban Hillcrest Villagers 1st XV in the final for the Junior Murray Cup.

Following a gripping encounter and a narrow victory against Newcastle Highlanders in the semi finals, the men in maroon were all set to take on the undefeated Hillcrest side in hopes of clinching another win and bringing home the coveted and prestigious Junior Murray Cup.

Despite several attempts by the Vryheid Herald to acquire details of the match, no comment was available from Vryheid Rugby Club at the time of going to print and the only information that could be confirmed was that the Land Rover Durban Hillcrest Villagers 1st XV were triumphant over the Vryheid side.

Vryheid Rugby Club will be having their AGM at the clubhouse at Cecil Emmett Park on September 5, where a new coach will be nominated and the selection for the new committee will take place.
