Cougars clinch the win at KZN Championships

The 13 wrestlers from the club all performed exceptionally well in the tournament.

Newcastle Cougars Wrestling Club recently participated in the KwaZulu-Natal Championships, which were held in Richards Bay.

The 13 wrestlers from the club all performed exceptionally well in the tournament.

“We had 13 participants enter, out of which 12 brought home gold medals and one wrestler won a bronze medal,” said Cougars coach, Danie de Wet.

De Wet said this was the first time in many years that so many of the Cougar wrestlers had won gold medals in a championship tournament.”In fact, the wrestler who won the bronze has only been wrestling for a month and if he had longer to train, he too could have won a gold.”

With this tournament now behind them, the Cougars were now preparing for the South African Championships in October, which would be held in Newcastle.
