Shooters from within KwaZulu-Natal found their marks on March 10.

Members of the KZN Hunters and Conservation Association (HCA) competed in the CHASA (Confederation of Hunting Associations of South Africa) Postal Shoot 2018.

This event involves a combination of target and gong shooting.

Competitors challenged their skills across four disciplines, namely .22 rimfire, big bore centerfire, handgun and shotgun.

Le Vras Davel earned top honours in the Junior Division, while Quene van R

ooyen secured first place in the Junior Females Division.

Ockie Olivier attained first place among KZN Hunter members.

Danie de Wet clinched the win in the .22 Division, while the day’s overall winner was JJ van der Westhuizen.

“The aim of the competition is to gather like-minded members of the association who have similar interests, enjoy hunting and the art of marksmanship,” said HCA representatives.

These enthusiasts then match their skills against one another in friendly competition, during controlled yet simulated hunting conditions.

“Most of us fall into this category and is the one time we can all get together under field conditions for an interesting day of shooting, chatting and swapping experiences.

The day concluded with a social gathering around the braai fire, where ideas relating to conservation were shared among hunters.

“This is an ongoing challenge geared towards improving shooting abilities. The primary objective was to create a shoot inducing an element of field practicality and basic shooting positions from realistic distances, while making it fun and interesting.”
