Celies FC victorious in annual Charlestown tournament
The year concluded with a bang as the top local football teams faced off in a highly entertaining three-day soccer event.
Sports lovers under Amajuba District Municipality ended the year well as the Amajuba District Municipality successfully held the annual competition known as Charlestown on December 31.
Celies FC emerged victorious, beating Charlestown FC in front of its own local crowd.
Amajuba District Municipality Deputy Mayor Thembelihle Mthembu oversaw the prize ceremony and commended the event organisers for their persistence in fostering community unity in rural areas.
The municipality stated that the goal was to involve the youth and foster unity among the residents.
“Congratulations to those who won this year’s competition, they showed great determination, defeating 14 teams is not a small thing. We can see that the efforts of the Municipality to support the corners are not hasty,” said Mthembu.
Tournament organisers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Amajuba District Municipality for their support and for playing a crucial role in developing the skills of the local youth.
“We also express our gratitude to all the employees of the Municipality who have contributed to make this competition a success,” they concluded.
