Amajuba ladies fly district flag high at Provincial tournament
Although they didn't take first place, iMajuba Peacemakers' performance in the KwaZulu-Natal Premier’s Netball Cup was widely praised by the netball community
The team secured an impressive fourth place out of the 11 teams that competed in the tournament, which took place at the Victoria Mxenge Sports Complex in Durban on March 22
Mtomuhle Khawula, Provincial Sports MEC, who attended the final, expressed his happiness over the successful tournament.
“We are delighted to have reached the final of the KZN Premier’s Netball Cup. The provinces that participated in the tournament showed amazing talent. After the tournament, we identified players who will play in the provincial team to represent KZN at the national games to be held in April, May and June,” said Khawula.
Khawula said he was glad to see that a strong team had been chosen to represent the province at the national level. He expressed hope that one leg of the Telkom Netball League, which starts next month, will be held in the province.
KZN Netball President, Gugu Ngema, said she believed that the future of netball is being nurtured in the province, and this tournament demonstrated that.
“KZN Netball needs to grow, streamline things, and market netball to the community so that we can generate more revenue,” Ngema said.
The KZN Premier’s Netball Cup aims to ensure that players representing the province at the national level are drawn from various regions in KZN.
