Newcastle bowlers start 2026 season with competitive success
Newcastle Bowling Club launched the 2026 season with wins, travel success and preparations for a major provincial event:
The new year got off to a lively start at Newcastle Bowling Club with the first monthly Eagle Peak Spur tabs competition of 2026.
Thirty local bowlers were eager to begin the year on a high note.
After an exciting day of play, the winners were Brandon Delport, Gert Roos, and Chris White, all delighted to replenish their fridge stock after the festive season.
Last Saturday, 20 Newcastle members travelled to Dundee to take part in the Pro10 pairs competition.
Each team played four games of ten ends.
Greg and Jo-Ann Conolly from Newcastle claimed first prize, followed by Ron and Alice Howe in second, and John Douthwaite and Chris White in third.
Next weekend, Newcastle Bowling Club will welcome bowlers from across KwaZulu-Natal for the highly anticipated annual Quadrangular tournament.
Members are working hard to ensure the event, which brings together Port Natal (Durban and surrounds), Natal Inland (Pietermaritzburg and surrounds), Kingfisher (South Coast), and KZN County Bowls (the remainder of the province), runs smoothly.
Looking ahead, the summer AME Business League will start on February 5.
Teams are encouraged to enter promptly to avoid disappointment. For more information, contact Brandon on 084 392 7558.
