Newcastle High School star Sphesihle Khaba chosen for international hockey tour in Europe

Newcastle High School’s Sphesihle Khaba (14) earns selection for South Africa Hawks Hockey Netherlands and Belgium Tour

At just 14, Newcastle High School student Sphesihle Khaba has been officially selected to represent South Africa in the Hawks Hockey Netherlands & Belgium Tour from September 25 to October 4.

Selected by BR Sport International’s elite selectors, Sphesihle will compete against top European talent while gaining valuable international exposure.

Achievements in 2025

  • Selected for the KZN Inland U14 Hockey Team

  • Drafted into the Durban Premier League 5.0

  • Member of the Newcastle High School 1st Hockey Team (Grade 8)

  • Newcastle High School Sportsman of the Year (the first Grade 8 learner to achieve this since 1992)

  • Junior Boys’ Hockey Player of the Year

  • U14 Boys’ Hockey Player of the Year

  • Rookie of the Year – Boys’ Hockey
