Good golf scores in the wind
September Monthly Mug played in extremely windy conditions on Saturday afternoon.
The September Monthly Mug, sponsored by EC Bozza Construction, was played in extremely windy conditions on Saturday afternoon, which really put all the golfers’ skills to the ultimate test.
The wind just seemed to get stronger and stronger in the afternoon competition, which resulted in some good scores and some rather horrific ones.
One golfer, no name to be mentioned, recalled how well he was playing until he took a ‘14’ at the 14th hole after sending a number of balls into the out-of-bounds area to the right of the hole.
This one-hole result eliminated him from any position in the Mug.
Nevertheless, there were a few golfers who managed the wind effectively and returned some respectable scores to claim the day’s top prizes.
The ‘A’ division winner was Patrick Pieterse with an excellent score of 65 net. Patrick Mbatha scored a very creditable 69 net to be runner-up and Gerald Boardman’s 71 net secured third position.
The ‘B’ Division winner was Ethan van Tonder, scoring a good 72 net. Runner-up was Bransby Niemach with 73 net and Balan Naidoo was third with 74 net.
The ‘Sucker of the Month’ was Noel Hoffmann and the ‘Longest Drive’ prize went to Philip Boardman.
Two-clubs were scored by Chris Nel, ‘Bones’, Gerald Boardman, Leon Petersen and Patrick Pieterse (who scored two).
Thanks to Enrico Bozza and EC Bozza Construction for the continued support and annual sponsorship of this event.
This Saturday’s golf competition is the Ladysmith Emnambithi Rotary Club sponsored event and Tuesday 24th is the ‘National Braai Day’ golf competition.

The Ladysmith Country Club Men’s Fours bowls tournament takes place this Saturday and Sunday, and we are really looking forward to another weekend of competitive men’s bowls.
To date, we have received entries from 10 teams for this very popular annual bowling tournament.
The ‘100 Club’ draw on Friday evening was won by Stuart Hanlon, who was five minutes late in arriving at the club, so we have a carry-over this Friday.
