Arrange your own game

There was only "arrange your own game" of social golf

Unfortunately, the Siegetown Moth Club golf and bowls tournaments scheduled for Saturday were postponed, which left the club with no official golf or bowls competitions for the weekend. There was only “arrange your own game” of social golf. That means there is no news for this week other than the forthcoming competitions.

The fourth round of the Ferobrake-sponsored Business League, scheduled for Thursday the 28th, was also cancelled due to poor weather conditions, so all in all a rather poor week for golfers and bowlers.

Our golfers played in the Northern Natal Inter-Club Tournament at Vryheid Country Club on Sunday and although they fared pretty well, they did not come home with any silverware. The Vryheid golfers took full advantage of the home-course knowledge to collect the spoils.

The ‘Mug of Mugs’ golf tournament, sponsored by Boardman Bros and Clover Leaf Candles, takes place on Saturday. All the year’s winners of ‘Monthly Mugs’, ‘Longest Drives’ and ‘Suckers’ will be competing for the ‘Mug of Mugs’, ‘Mug of Longest Drives’ and ‘Mug of Suckers’. This competition also includes the final medal round for the 2013 Eclectic, so it is open to all members and not only the qualifiers from past Monthly Mugs.

The final and 11th round of the Mortimer Toyota League takes place on Sunday morning, with a ‘shotgun start’ at 8am. Social golfers, please note that the course will be closed for any social golf until 12.30pm. At this stage of the 2013 league, the team leading the way with 58 points are Rough Riders, but close on their heels with 55 points is the Automark team and Four Must Get Beers with 51 points. Eight points are up for grabs in the final round, so it is still possible for a change in overall results on Sunday.

The draw for Sunday’s final round is: Automark vs Toyota at No. 1 and No. 2 tees; Bell’s Cousies vs Black Bees at No. 3 and No. 4 tees; Rough Riders vs Four Must Get Beers at No. 5 and No. 6 tees; The Bullets vs Team Golf at No. 7 tee; Scorpions vs Fat Bastards at No. 8 and No. 9 tees; Boardman’s Nationals vs Nambiti Plumbers at No. 17 and No. 18 tees.

Teams with five players available for Sunday’s round will be accommodated and arrangements will be made for all to participate in the final round of this fantastic annual league competition.

The Mortimer Toyota Bowls League final will also be played on Sunday morning and here too there are a number of bowlers in contention for the overall honours. Bowls starts at 10am.

The sponsors have arranged for a superb lunch to be served after prize-giving, so we look forward to a great day’s competitive golf, good fellowship and family fun at the club.

The Bowls Section ‘Christmas Competition’, sponsored by SA Greetings, will take place on Saturday, December 14, and is to be played as a Mixed Fours competition with two games of 12 ends starting at 2pm. Entries are limited to 14 teams, so make sure your entries are confirmed in good time.

Friday evening’s ‘100 Club’ draw was won by Gavin Livingston, who was present and was overjoyed with his three-grand scoop. This Friday, the draw reverts to one-and-a-half grand, so be there if you want to collect the winner’s prize.
