Five karate-ka’s attempting their Shodan (1st dan) grading were recently put through their paces under the scrutiny of the Chief Instructor of JKA South Africa, Sensei Johan Le Grange.
A training session of two hours started bright and early on the Saturday morning with extensive attention given to hip movement and speed. After the lunch break the karate-ka’s not only attempted their first-level-black-belt grading, but through hard work and stamina, they achieved their goal of Shodan.
Angus Burns, Warren Mc Call, Drien Harold, Lee Bhoonpershad and Dewald Cronje have proven, after a lot of blood, sweat and tears, that they have earned the right to wear their black belts with pride.
The Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal Region is proud to have these Shodans join the rank of black belt and it shows that there is depth and character and a life-commitment within the sport that is karate.
The Club congratulates these five karate-ka’s on their fine achievement and thank all the Sensei’s involved in bringing them up to this level.
