The Northern KZN Golf Strokeplay Championships went down to the wire on Sunday afternoon with two golfers from the same club battling it out in a sudden death play-off that went stretched to four holes.
In the end, Shane Douglas of Zimbali Club pipped his good friend, Steve Phytides, in a play-off that had fellow golfers following the pair around the course in admiration.
The club would like to thank all players – locals and visitors – who took part in the Championships, and would also like to thank Northern KZN Official for hosting the Championships at Dundee Country Club, as well as all the members who provided snacks for the players.
The winners were as follows: Best gross in the A Division Shane Douglas on 140, after a four-hole play-off with Steve Phytides, and third was Gareth Atkinson on 142.
A Division nett: First Derek Sullar on 136, second Vernon Naidoo on 138, on a count-out from Mike Atkinson.
B Division gross went to Lawrence Sithole on 155, second was Siyabonga Mkhize on 160 and third was Zuzu Dlamini on 162.
B Division nett went to Sibusiso Sithole on 141, second was KP Smith on 142, counted out from Simphiwe Nene. There were some sub-par rounds carded (nine holes).
Wednesday’s 11-hole IPS meat competition was won by Rob Salmond, and second Walter du Plessis.
Friday’s meat competition was won by Sibusiso Sithole on 21 points, counted out from Rob Salmond, played in the form of an IPS. Two-clubs were carded by Thulasizwe Mthethwa and Mr Ackerman.

Mining Services Golf Day
Dundee Country Club will be hosting the Mining Services Golf Day on February 1. Please note that the format will be a 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford – it will be a shotgun start at 11am. Hosts Coalmac and Izumu Mining.
Monthly Mug and Mug of Mugs
Please note that the Monthly Mug and Mug of Mugs has been postponed to February 8 – Individual Medal. Mug-winners for 2013 are up on the notice board.
Club Competition IPS
The Club Competition played on January 25 in the form of an IPS attracted a good field of 52 players. The club would like to thank all those who played – local and visitors. The competition was played in the form of a 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford.
The winners were as follows:
Visitors John Clarke and Matthew Kid on a good 46 points, counted out from Billy Francis and Lionel Shawe; third was father and son Sibusiso and Thulasizwe Mthembu on a good 45 points; and fourth father and son, Braam and Jurich Botes, on 44 points counted out.
Two-clubs were carded by Anton Raubenheimer, Blessing Chiwaya, Mandla Mthethwa, Brian du Toit and Steve Phytides. The jackpot was won by Sifiso Kunene.
