Swimmers bouyed with success
Hundreds of swimmers competed, including Olympian Troyden Prinsloo.
South African Olympian, Troyden Prinsloo put on a swimming master-class at Sunday’s Chelmsford Challenge.
He completed the one kilometre main event in a time of 11 minutes, 58 seconds, almost half a minute faster than his nearest competitor, Keown Delomoney.
Stephen Clarkson, Reino von Wielligh and JJ van der Hoogen rounded off the top five.
Conversely, Ladysmith’s Cassidy Muller posted a finishing time of 13:59 in the same distance event.
The female swimmers making up positions two, three, four and five were Abigail Peters (14:00), Emma Chelius (14:44), Amy Fraser (16:39) and Marushca Kruger (17:00).
This year’s event was the first to include a 3km endurance swim.
Keown Delomoney finished first overall with a time of 40:36, ahead of Stephen Clarkson (42:25), Dian Yssel (50:13), Amy Fraser (50:54), Julian van Wyk (50:57), Varish Ramautar (51:26), Karl Hellberg (53:04), Jan-Hendrik Visagie (53:35), Jay Azran (56:50) and Terri-Lyn Hodge (57:51).
In the 500m fun swim, Gert van Wyk was first in a time of 9:05.
Gustav Gryffenberg completed the swim in second place with a time of 9:25, ahead of Shane Elliot in a time of 9:27.
