ON Saturday, January 25, the annual KZN Freshwater Bank Angling Championships was held at Klipfontein Dam. This competition is where the strength of the participating clubs is tested. It is a very competitive event and therefore a great honour for a club to be crowned KZNFBAU Club Champions. Nine clubs from all over KZN participated. The competition was hard and the fish were few. When the final sirens went at 3:00pm to mark the end of the competition, nobody knew who the winning club was going to be. With great anticipation, the anglers waited for the officials to finalise the points. The results were as follows: 1st: Vryheid, with 142 points; 2nd: Kingfisher Ladysmith with 118 points; 3rd: Iscor with 99 points; 4th: Domoina with 97 points; 5th: Pietermaritzburg with 89 points; 6th: SAPS Vryheid with 86 points; 7th: Real Angler with 82 points; 8th: Dundee with 65 points and 9th: Newcastle with 40 points. Vryheid Angling Club wants to give all honour and glory to the Lord, who is in control for His guidance, strength, perseverance and the blessing He bestowed upon them to be crowned as the KZNFBAU Club Champions for 2014. Vryheid Angling Club was also the host of this event and would like to thank the following people for their time and effort to ensure that the dam and its facilities were in order for this prestigious event: Chris Hoon; Mr. Mthethwa and his tractor drivers; Trompie Prinsloo; Chris Kruger and his assistant; Llewllyn Schwab and members of the Vryheid Angling Club. Your efforts are dearly noted and appreciated. We are looking forward to the KZN Trials on February 22 and 23 and the SA Championships from March 10 to 14. The first School League will be fished on February 1 at Klipfontein Dam, followed by the Pro Mania on Sunday, February 2. Tight lines and let’s keep the dam and its facilities as clean as we have found them.
