Remember that date you were asked to diarise? Well, it is here at last – come to the club on Friday evening at 6pm to celebrate evening bowls and Valentine’s Day with ‘spotlight bowls’ and curry & rice to follow. You will be sorry if you miss out on such fun!
The Quadrangular Tournament in Pietermaritzburg turned out to be very good bowls played in very hot weather! The bowlers from Port Natal showed everyone how it’s done by winning the trophy once again, with Natal Inland coming second, KZNCB third and Kingfishers fourth. Hopefully those who did not fare so well have learned from the dedication put in by the Port Natal teams, who do a lot of practicing and also playing. It requires practice in any sport to achieve positive results and not just an occasional tabs-in game. The bowlers do have time to put in some serious work before they represent the district at the Provincials in March, so let’s hope they will use the time to practice that particular shot they could not get right in PMB.
Wednesday sees the start of the Spar Twilight League, and all the teams are looking forward to playing against old and new friends in this event. This mixing of business and pleasure gives everyone a chance to see their work colleagues in a different light, away from the business atmosphere, and brings out new friendships in a relaxed environment. It is a pleasure to watch business people relax and enjoy an evening out in the open air, having fun together. Our thanks to all who are supporting this community effort, especially all at the club who have worked so hard to prepare the greens and eats and get the entries organised. But most of all, thanks to Spar for their support to the bowlers.
Please show your support for the club on Thursday at 6pm by attending the Special General Meeting, which is important to all members.
Saturday morning is the Midlands mid-year meeting, when we will host all the other clubs, and in the afternoon it will be the ‘President vs Vice-President’ match of the year. Come along and let’s see whether the president can be the winner this year.
