Business League separates the men from the boys
The next three rounds will separate the men from the boys and we are sure to see some good scores in the weeks ahead
The past week was full of activity at the Ladysmith Country Club with the Sages golfers on Thursday, the Ferobrake Business League on Thursday afternoon, the Valentine’s Day dinner on Friday evening, the Ladysmith Bulldogs Rugby Club sponsored golf competition on Saturday, and the Curves LCC Ladies’ Trips bowls tournament on Sunday. The club was a real hive of activity for days on end, and our staff were really kept on their toes to keep all the members and visitors well serviced.
The Ferobrake Business League has now reached the halfway point, with three rounds completed, and positions are very close at this stage. The next three rounds will separate the men from the boys and we are sure to see some good scores in the weeks ahead.
Friday evening’s Valentine’s Day social dinner was well attended and a great social event. Excellent decor, a great meal and good fellowship made the event so enjoyable to all. Thanks to Steve Dixon and his ‘team’ for the arrangements.
The Ladysmith Bulldogs Rugby Club sponsored the Saturday afternoon Combined Stableford golfing event and this very popular annual competition attracted a large field of local golfers. Weather conditions were perfect for good golfing and with the golf course in really great shape at this time of year, the golfers are really enjoying the conditions and returning some great scores. Winners with an excellent combined score of 80 points were Geoff Lee and Steve Dixon, with Gerald Boardman and Russell Goosen close on their heels in second place with 79 points. Vernon Naidoo and Jane MacKenzie scored 77 points for third place. ‘Nearest the Pin’ winners were Max Pillay and Marx Zaayman. The ‘Longest Drive’ went to Thami Nthuli, while Marcel Meyer slotted the ‘Longest Putt’. Dries Slabbert, Gerald Boardman, Leon Petersen and Marx Zaayman carded two-clubs. Thanks to the local ‘rugger-buggers’ and the Ladysmith Bulldogs for a great day’s golf and hopefully a successful fundraiser.
The Curves LCC Ladies’ Trips tournament was played on Sunday in good although extremely hot conditions. A good entry of 10 teams entered for this ladies’ tournament, which produced some very close encounters, a few upsets and some good wins for the teams. Played over three rounds of 12 ends each, there were only two teams that managed to win all three games to score full points and rely on shot average to decide the winners. In the end, it was the Harrismith Bowling Club team of Helga Rossouw, Annelie du Preez and Zettie Opperman who emerged as overall winners with six points and +35. Runners-up were Klipbank Bowling Club’s Barbara Baleri, Lorraine Kirsten and Veronika Malan with six points +23. Third place went to Klipbank’s Magriet Coetzee, Maureen Streatfield and Marietha Prinsloo with four points +14. Country Club’s Cheryl Mostert, Padma Magan and Anne Cerrai were in fourth position with four points +12. All in all, a really successful bowling competition for the ladies, with good bowls, great fellowship and delicious teas and lunch. Thanks to sponsors Pat and Tony Cuninghame and Curves Complete for their excellent sponsorship and support to bowls.
This Saturday, we have the ‘Oriental Day’ golf and bowls competitions and this is a not-to-be-missed event. Entry lists are on the notice board, so be on time to beat the draw.
Friday evening’s ‘100 Club’ draw was scooped by Mike Anderson, who was present to collect two-and-a-half grand. So this Friday, the draw reverts to one-and-a-half grand. You have to be there to be a big winner!
