Crunch time for the top guns
Both Breakwaters and Dannhauser fielded full teams. However, it was the in-form outfit of Breakwaters that prevailed over the gallant Dannhauser team by 72 points to 34.
Breakwaters Angling
The Natal Fresh Water Angling Association (NFWAA) held its second round Knockout Competition at Richgate Park on January 26. Breakwaters were up against the determined Dannhauser Angling Club in Zone 4, while Stillwaters were pitted against Riverside in Zone 2.
Both Breakwaters and Dannhauser fielded full teams. However, it was the in-form outfit of Breakwaters that prevailed over the gallant Dannhauser team by 72 points to 34. The top three anglers for Breakwaters were Monty Slabbert (14 points), Shakeel Sheik (13) and Kaveer Singh (12).
Riverside, fielding a team of experienced and seasoned anglers, eliminated Stillwaters by accumulating 16 points to six. The top anglers from Stillwaters were Rishen Nankoo (5) and Avikar Buduram (1).
In the next round of the Knockout Competition, Riverside fished against Chelmsford on February 23 in Zones A and B at Sandford. Riverside proved to be too good for Chelmsford as they accumulated 53 points to 21. Breakwaters will take on Riverside on April 6 at Richgate, which should make for an interesting and hotly-contested encounter.
The association’s next competition will be League 6 at Sandford on March 9. League 5 produced some surprising results, with Freespool topping the day on 37 points, followed by a rejuvenated Challengers outfit on 36, Docrats (29), Breakwaters (27), Riverside (23), Stillwaters (15), Dannhauser (13), Chelmsford (9) and Glencoe (2). This result has cut Breakwaters’ lead to a mere three points from their nearest rivals, Freespool, and the log table makes for interesting reading. The standings are as follows: Breakwaters (78 points); Freespool (75); Docrats (68); Challengers (67); Stillwaters (48); Riverside (47); Dannhauser (31); Glencoe (26); Chelmsford (10).
The remaining fixtures for the season include the play-off between the second, third and fourth placed teams on April 13 at Sandford and Grand Challenge on May 18 at Richgate Park. It’s crunch time for the top guns in the association, as the competitions have reached the business end where glory and pride is at stake.
