Golfing partners need to score consistently

The Siegetown Moths golf and bowls sponsored competitions played on Saturday afternoon attracted a full entry all round, which had the right formula for a really successful day at the Country Club.
Thanks to the organisers of this annual event for once again seeing to a great day for all the participating golfers and bowlers. The fund-raising efforts are reported to have been better than anticipated, so well done to you all.
The golf competition was played as a Combined Stableford event, with both partners needing to score consistently to return a good result. This can be either very good or very poor for developing friendships and relationships. However, it seems that most of the guys and girls were still talking to one another at the 19th hole. Winners of the competition were Sipho Hlongwa and Themba Ntuli with an excellent combined score of 79 points. Dave Salmond and Stuart Hanlon finished in second place with a creditable 76 points, followed by Mike Williams and Rajen Harilal on 75, Murray Hume and Tim Hume on 74, and then Leon Petersen and Patrick Pieterse on 71.
Thokozani Dladla and George van der Merwe are not talking to one another much after claiming the ‘Longest Walk’ with 51 points. ‘Nearest the Pin’ winners were Pam Sanders, Sipho Hlongwa, G Blignaut and Vernon Naidoo. The ‘Longest Putt’ was slotted by Eythan van Tonder. Vernon, Pam and Sipho converted their good tee-shots at the Par 3 holes with a two-club birdie putt.
The bowls competition was played as a Mixed Trips event with two games of 10 ends each. Winners were VJ Singh, Desairee Maartens and Bev van der Merwe, who were the only team that managed to win both games and record a final score of four points +25.
Runners-up were Bob Corringham, Kurt Swoboda and Rod van Deventer with two points +6. Third spot went to Gavin Moore, Derek Playford and Eros Jannon.
Gavin Moore also collected the ‘spider’ prize.

The Ferobrake Business League finals were played on Thursday afternoon and the eventual overall winners were Mortimer Toyota, captained by golf captain Wynand Wessels.

On Sunday, 26 local golfers travelled to Harrismith for the ‘Ladysmith-Harrismith Challenge’ return match.
After having won the past three rounds, the Ladysmith guys were confident of a good result, but it seems that our friends from the other side of the mountains were well prepared with an extremely strong selection which resulted in the Ladysmith guys being ‘klapped’ by 555 points to 521.
This means that we need to get our game sharp for the return match on Sunday, May 25.
This Saturday is the Monthly Mug (Individual Medal and also Individual Stableford event) sponsored by Springbok Lodge.
On Saturday, March 15, a ‘President vs Golf Captain’ event will be played, followed by the Mortimer Toyota League second round on Sunday the 16th.
Friday evening’s ‘100 Club’ draw was won by Dave Salmond who, for once, decided not to go home early and was there to collect his winnings.
