Well-below-handicap scores on soft course
This tournament will be played on Saturday afternoons and the 'round-robin event must be completed by the end of April
The March Monthly Mug, sponsored by Springbok Lodge, was played on Saturday. Thanks to the welcome rains during the few days preceding this tournament, the course was much ‘softer’ and played extremely well, resulting in some well-below-handicap scores.
Winner of the ‘A’ Division Mug was Carla Craffert with an excellent 67 net, followed by Sifiso Mdluli with 70 net. Sifiso Mdluli carded the ‘Best Gross’ score of 76. The ‘B’ Division Mug was won by Bransby Niemach with 68 net on a count-out from Mike Attwell. Andy Breedt paid us a visit for the weekend and managed to collect the Individual Stableford prize with 37 points, albeit after carding an exciting and agricultural ’10’ at the dreaded 6th hole. This only cost one ‘blackout’, but the rest of the round was good enough. The month’s ‘Longest Walk’ was won by George van der Merwe. ‘Nearest the Pin’ winners were Gareth Friend and Gerald Boardman, with the ‘Longest Drive’ going to Bransby Niemach and the ‘Longest Putt’ to Russell Goosen. Jannie Schuler, Patrick Pieterse, Marcel Meyer and Sifiso Mdluli carded two-clubs. Thanks to Brett Gilder and Springbok Lodge for their support and sponsorship of this event.
The first round of the 2014 ‘Mick’s Rules’ bowls competition was played on Sunday morning and although conditions were quite heavy after the Saturday evening rains, the fellowship and good camaraderie was once again evident for this popular annual social bowls challenge. Unfortunately, a number of the regulars were not on hand to play, due to other commitments, but we will ensure that future rounds see a full turnout of 12 teams.
This Saturday is the ‘President versus Golf Captain’ golf tournament to be played as a Combined Stableford event. The draw is to be done on Friday (tomorrow) at 6pm, so select your partner and ensure that your entries are in by then.
Sunday morning sees the second round of the Mortimer Toyota League and the draw is as follows: Fat Bastards vs The Bullets on tees # 1 and #2; Rough Riders vs Scorpions on tees #3 and #4; Nambiti Plumbers vs Team Golf on tees #5 and #6; Four Must Get Beers vs Boardman’s Nationals on tees #7 and #8; Mortimer Toyota vs Neal’s Tyres on tees #9 and #10. Please note that the golf course is closed to social golfers until 1pm on Sunday due to the ‘shotgun start’ for the Mortimer Toyota League, which utilises all the course tees at once.
Club bowlers, please note that the entry form for the SpecSavers ‘Pro 10′ Pairs tournament has been posted on the notice board for your entries. This tournament will be played on Saturday afternoons and the ’round-robin event must be completed by the end of April.
All members are reminded of the Special General Meeting which is to take place at the club today (Thursday) at 5.45pm. There are a number of important items to be discussed, so your attendance and participation will be appreciated.
