Shaugne to compete in karate World Championships
Shaugne will be competing in the Kata, Junior Male 14 years, and in the Kumite, Junior Male 14 years.
Shaugne van der Watt has been selected to represent South African JKA Karate at the World JKA Championships in Tokyo, Japan on October 17, 19 and 19.
Shaugne will be competing in the Kata, Junior Male 14 years, and in the Kumite, Junior Male 14 years.
The JKA Shotocup trials were held at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg on May 30, 2013. Participants who fell out at these trials and who were unable to attend, due to illness or injury, were given the opportunity to redeem themselves.
They received the opportunity to challenge the third and fourth positions for the final team. This was held this past weekend, March 8, at the Mandeville Sports Stadium in Johannesburg.
At the trials of May last year, Shaugne achieved an excellent first place in kata and was left unchallenged in this division. He did, however challenge the third and fourth positions in the kumite section and after winning three out of the four fights, he was rewarded with fourth place for kumite.
This is a hard-earned achievement and was also a huge confidence builder for the NKZN JKA Karate Championship that will be held on March 25 at Farmers Hall in Newcastle.
Shaugne’s achievement is certainly something to be proud of. He has all of the support and guidance needed in preparation for the World Championships later this year.
