Members of the community converged on the Paradise Sports Grounds where a 6-a-side soccer tournament was held to raise funds for Boycotts, Divestments and Sanctions (BDS) as well as the Newcastle Child Society.
Palestinians advocated for the international isolation of Apartheid Israel, thus BDS was formed.
Teams from Newcastle, Dundee, Volksrust, Ladysmith and Madadeni came together in action-packed matches on the Astro-Turf of the Paradise Futsal Court.
There were stalls and food vendors on the day, inviting the community to enjoy the sunny weather. There were many children’s activities, Palestinian paraphernalia and Salaah facilities available.
During the day, an energetic endeavours from the organisers urged and challenged members of the community to donate generously towards the cause, eventually raising nearly R100 000.
