Golf president outplays captain

Saturday saw 30 golfers taking to the fairways in ‘battle kit’ for our annual ‘President vs Captain’ competition. The competition was played in a 4BBB format and considering the course was playing a lot softer following the recent rain, the scores were once again a reflection of some great golf.

First on 48 points were W Bentley and B Cuninghame, followed in second spot by G van der Westhuizen and C Craffert on 48 points. Third with 47 points were PN Singh and S Magan.

‘Wessie’ scored a two-club on the 11th hole.

After all the final scores were audited, ‘Team President’ were announced as the victors, beating ‘Team Captain’ by a three-point average margin! Well played to ‘Team President’. A wager was taken and the losing captain was to donate R500 to Juana Maria Old Age Home. R1400 was eventually raised thanks to the generosity of the club golfers.

The second round of the Mortimer League was played on Sunday morning in ideal conditions and the league results after two rounds are as follows: 4 Must Get Beers – 15 points; Mortimer Toyota – 13; Team Golf – 12.

4 Must Get Beers have gotten off to a near perfect start and being leaders after two rounds, the rest of the teams will have them in their sights when the third round is played on Sunday, April 6.

Vernon Naidoo, Charles Elworthy and Sipho Hlongwa all travelled to Empangeni over the weekend to take part in the Natal Country District Trials, with our Sipho Hlongwa being selected together with seven other players from all over KZN to represent KZN in the SA County Districts IPT later in the year.

Our ladies have also been in action, taking part in the Northern Region Championships, which were played over 36 holes at the Dundee CC. Congratulations to Jane Mackenzie for winning the Gold Division medal.

To Sipho, Jane and the other players who took part and represented Ladysmith CC throughout KZN, we are extremely proud – well done!
