Local table tennis players off to youth champs

The two players, who are part of a table tennis team right here in Ladysmith, will represent South Africa at the tournament from April 7 to 11

Two local table tennis players jetted off to Beijing, China, today (Monday) for a week of preparation for next month’s African Youth Championships which will be held in Egypt.

The two players, who are part of a table tennis team right here in Ladysmith, will represent South Africa at the tournament from April 7 to 11. They are 16-year-old Palesa Mthaoelibe and 15-year-old Bekithemba Magubane.

Team coach Loyiso Nyosi says he is confident that his players will do very well at the tournament. “If we had the proper equipment, I would have produced more players of this calibre because there is lots of talent in the Uthukela area.”

Palesa did very well when she went to Tunisia in March last year for the Youth Championships. She was ranked seventh in Africa and was the only player from KZN in this code of sport. “I am excited to represent South Africa yet again and am very confident we will do well,” enthuses Palesa.
