Reeling in success at bank angling overnighter

More than R70 000 in prizes will be up for grabs at Itec Freespool Angling Club’s overnight bank competition this weekend.

The huge prize fund includes a cash handover of R15 000 to the top angler in the scaled category, while the non-scaled winner will walk away with a cash prize of R5 000.

All these and more can be bagged at the competition on March 29 and 30.

Fishing takes place from Sandford to the zones within the reserve from 8am on the first day to 10am on March 30, and entry into the competition is R150 excluding gate fees.

The action will also include a skins competition between 9am and 5pm on the opening day.

Skins, for both scaled and non-scaled fish, will take place in two-hour sessions, and anglers stand a chance of winning up to R1 500 every two hours.

Besides cash prizes, anglers could also walk away with a variety of household appliances, fishing tackle, outdoor equipment, power tools, office equipment and more.

All participants also stand the chance of winning prizes in lucky draws at the competition’s weigh-in.

Organisers have asked anglers to take note of the following: Queuing will start at the main gates only; the swapping of vehicles in the queue and free standing trailers will not be permitted.

Tickets are available at Midas, Engen Garage Murchison Street, Just Baits (Ratty) or from club members.

Itec Freespool Angling Club was established in 2012 and falls under the umbrella of the Natal Fresh Water Angling Association (NFWAA) and consists of anglers from all race groups and religious denominations, including youth and women.

The opportunity to host this competition was afforded by the NFWAA and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.

Freespool’s competition was also hosted in order to raise funds for the running of the club and to provide assistance to needy school going children.
