Athletic club laces up for Two Oceans

The Eskom Athletics Club welcomes all prospective members.

With the Two Oceans Marathon just around the corner, the Eskom Athletics Club aims to lead from the front.

Founded in January this year, the club hopes to inspire new membership through various marathon events it will compete in, as well as an executive committee comprising many experienced runners.

One such athlete is Ndabenhle Ndaba, who has competed in marathons from coast to coast.

Mr Ndaba explained the Eskom Athletics Club would take part in half-marathons, marathons, ultra-marathons across South Africa, including the ultimate test of physical endurance, the Comrades Marathon.

Moreover, he continued, the club would also participate in cross-country competitions and local events.

The club hosts its time trials every Wednesday at Arbor Park Sports Grounds, where athletes have their times recorded across distances of four or eight kilometres.

“All interested in running, either as a hobby or as a career, are welcome at all times.”

The executive committee of the Eskom Athletics Club is as follows:

Chairperson – Qinisane Magubane; vice-chairperson – Thulani Msane; secretary – Gugu Makhathini; vice-secretary – Marie Khumalo; coach – Jacob Banda; vice-coach – Lindo Madonsela; treasurer – Bongumusa Gubevu; and spokesperson – Ndabenhle Ndaba.
