The final day of the South African long course nationals held in Durban on Saturday featured an exciting men’s 50 free final capped off a great week swimming excellence. The final saw local swimming superstar Bradly Tandy make the Commonwealth Games team.
While top seed Roland Schoeman qualified for his fourth Commonwealth Games final in Friday’s semifinal with a 22.04, then did what was needed to win the national title on Saturday with a whopping 22.11. The biggest story of the race however was the 22.22 by Ladysmith born Brad Tandy to earn a spot on the Commonwealth Games team. Tandy who trains in America,  tied for first two weeks ago at the NCAA championships (USA) in the 50 free, gained a place on his first international team and put himself 12th in the world. Tandy was in Ladysmith earlier in the week swimming with former team mates.
