Competitive action at Mayoral Friendship Games
The Mayoral Friendship Volleyball Tournament took place at Agra Grounds, with a number of teams participating in both the male and female categories
The past weekend saw a feast of sporting events in Ladysmith, with the Arthur Cresswell Memorial Marathon, Northern District Cricket Union (NDCU) cricket finals and awards presentation, and Emnambithi Volleyball Association (EVA) hosting the first Emnambithi Mayoral Friendship Games.
The Mayoral Friendship Volleyball Tournament took place at Agra Grounds, with a number of teams participating in both the male and female categories. Competition in both divisions was of a high standard, with teams showcasing their skills and going for the win.
The first round of the tournament was played on a round robin basis, with the top four teams going through to the semi-finals.
In the female section, Klipriver High School took on Swanky’s 6 in the final. Klipriver High were playing their first EVA tournament, while Swank’s 6 are the reigning EVA champions who have performed consistently well in the last few tournaments. The latter have also become role models in the league, showing great enthusiasm for the sport. However, Klipriver High were not to be intimidated and proved to be impressive challengers. The first set was full of competitive action, with Swanky’s 6 taking an early lead. Klipriver High fought back galliantly to take the set. In the second set, both teams played excellent volleyball as the lead constantly changed hands. Eventually, the young Klipriver High team rose to the challenge and won the set to clinch the title. Ladysmith Secondary finished third. Well done to all the teams that took part!
