Sentraal cross the border and triumph

T-Shirts for Africa Sentraal’s first and second rugby sides beat Volksrust in two hard fought ‘across the border’ battles on Saturday.
The second team’s match kicked off about 15 minutes late but this did not distract the visitors from Dundee.
With a rampant Ngcobo Zulu at 9 and Sipokhule Sibisi at 10, the team made use of quality ball received from the forwards. Sentraal ran in ten tries through captain Gert Aucamp (two), Nhlanhla Zwane (two), while Ngcobo Zulu, Buthi Zulu, Siyabonga Xaba, Jurie Engelbreght, Stembiso Mghabi and Siyabonga Radebe each dotted down once.
With the regular place kicker of the second side, Joff Davies, promoted to the first side, kicking was a problem but in the end, Gert and Mthokozizi (two) converted three of the tries. Players of the match were Nhlandla Zwane (forwards) and Siphokulhe Sibisi (backs).
The first team game was a much tighter affair where Sentraal’s handling let them down on occasions in a strong wind. There was some brilliant play at stages where centre Zander Kriel cut through the defence with pace. Sentraal scored three tries through Zander Kriel (two) and Tshapelo Nkoto (one). Pierre Booysen converted all three and slotted a penalty and the final score was 24-17.
Players of the match were flanker, Henk Booysen, (forwards) while younger brother and flyhalf, Pierre Booysen, took the honours among the forwards.
This weekend Sentraal got a well-deserved bye but practices will still go on every Tuesday and Thursday at Dundee High School fields 5:30 pm . All players welcome – dust off those togs and join a winning club. Sentraal thanks Ernest for the use of the kombi.
