Teams from Gauteng, Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Zululand and the country districts gathered to celebrate the 70th staging of this tournament.

Despite the odd shower of rain, causing players to scamper off the green, all games were completed.

The top finishers of the various sections were as follows:

Friedman Cup (men only)

First – Dion Audie and team from Stella Park, Durban (37 + 37); second – Phillip Scheepers, John Cross, Dion Leiaty and Hogart Gevers from Vryheid (28 + 6); third – Colin McDougal and team from Maritzburg West (26 + 8).

Newcastle Bowling Club (NBC) congratulated Dundee Bowling Club on its amazing milestone of 70 consecutive years of one tournament, and wished it many more successful years.

NBC hosted its monthly FedAuto meat competition on the same weekend.

Winning the main meat prize was the team of Billy Nicholas, Roger Jackets, Anil Durgadin and Johanna le Roux.

In second place, also going home with meat prizes, were Henk Zaal, Jean Ball and Tara Hartman.

Weather permitting, the penultimate round of league play in the FedAuto Business League will be played this Thursday evening.

Competition is still keen with a number of teams trying to head their respective sections, while others are doing their best to lift themselves from the bottom of the log.
