Bowlers play with good heart
Congregation members were paired with club bowlers randomly.
A most successful fundraising afternoon was held by the Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon at the Newcastle Bowling Club.
A total of 72 players, made up of members of the Methodist congregation and bowlers from the club, were randomly placed in teams, and proceeded to play a 15-end game.
Games were completed just before the heavens opened, and prizes were then handed out to all players, thanks to the generous donations from many individuals and organisations.
Organiser, Gerald Boyd thanked all who assisted with the afternoon and stated this would become an annual event.
The top four teams were:
Edith Pretorius, Terry Smith, Owen Symons and Joan Schoon (14 + 14); Graham Massey, Gerald Boyd, Nan Winterbach and Lukas Niemand (14 + 6); Tara Hartman, Claire Holden, Len Holden and Trevor Hutchinson (13 + 12); Billy Nicholas, Monty Steele, Marie Botha and Esther Willemse (12 + 20).
The latter team was elated to score an eight, but later their bubble was burst on hearing they could not claim on insurance, as the afternoon was not an official competition.
The KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls (KZNCB) Emerging Masters Singles competition takes place in Mtunzini in Zululand this weekend.
The winners of each section qualify for the main Masters event, to be held in January 2017.
Good bowling to all participants.
