It was at this point Ebrahim Mia of Challengers stepped forward.
With 48 points on the day, the most in a single outing in the history of the Angling Professional League (APL), he was the deserved recipient of both the orange and green caps.
This has marked Ebrahim as the one to beat this season.
Other anglers who made a mark last weekend included Albert van Niekerk of Breakwaters with 40 points, Anil Boodhoo of Stillwaters with 37 points, and Jannie Els of Breakwaters with 34 points.
The APL has also confirmed its top three anglers to date:
Ebrahim Mia stands at the pinnacle with 65 total points, followed by Fanie Els on 47 points and Anil Boodhoo on 45 points.
Overall, Breakwaters leads with 253 team points.
Stillwaters is second with 200 points, ahead of Challengers on 185, Ladysmith on 83 and Dannhauser on 45.
Thus, Breakwaters leads the VME League with 36 points.

Stillwaters is in second place on 28 points, a commendable achievement given many of its anglers are fishing competitively for the first time.
Ladysmith is one point clear of Challengers, and Dannhauser is in last place.
“The season has been very exciting this far, as the outcome of each competition is difficult to predict. This makes for an interesting season going forward into the new year,” explained APL management.
After League 4 concluded, Breakwaters and Stillwaters announced its title contenders for the season:
Vernon Naidoo – Heaviest Scaled Fish; Sikhander Amod – Heaviest Non-scaled Fish; Thasheel Rooplal – Heaviest Scaly Fish; Suvyn Budhoo – Rare Species Catch; Fanie Els – Most Fish Caught and Angler of the Year; Albert van Niekerk – Highest Point Scorer; Veruschka Boodhoo – Female Angler of the Year; Mohamed Sheik – Junior Angler of the Year; and Kidd Rampersadh – Senior Angler of the Year.
Anglers are on break from competitive angling over the festive season, with the next APL fixture set as the VME League Five on February 19.
“We wish our members tight lines and a joyous festive season.”
