The boxing Van Heerdens lit up the SA Youth Championships in Glencoe

The SA National Youth Boxing Championships held in Glencoe over from Thursday to Saturday brought some of the top boxing luminaries in the country to the area.
Teams from six provinces were represented with KZN putting in a great showing with both boys and girls showcasing their pugilistic skills.
The Courier was privileged to catch up with the Van Heerden family of Gauteng who already boasts two champions in their ranks – Chris – a former IBO Welterweight champion and sparred against Conor McGregor in his run-up to his famous showdown with Mayweather in August.

The Older son, Danie, is a former Extreme Fighting Champion and recently went back to traditional boxing.
Now, Danie van Heerden, Senior, and his family are expecting big things from the youngest son, Don-Juan who took the trophy in Glencoe in the 75kg division after defeating A Wellem of Eastern Cape.

Explosive and agile, Don-Juan is a formidable opponent in the ring. Danie, senior, told the Courier the family is right behind young Don-Juan and expects him to be a world champion.
