Ladysmith brothers race downhill in the fastest time possible
They say they want to push themselves beyond their limits on their bicycles and be the best at the sport
Local adrenaline junkies 20-year-old Struan and 18-year-old Cullen McMaster took part in a downhill race in Helderkruin recently.
The lads, both born and raised in Ladysmith, have always had a passion for bikes and started riding off-road at a young age.
One of their friends told them about downhill mountain biking and they immediately fell in love with the sport. The aim is always to finish races in the fastest time.
They say they want to push themselves beyond their limits on their bicycles and be the best at the sport.
According to the brothers, the track at the downhill race in Helderkruin was rocky, with tight corners and high speeds. The brothers had great fun negotiating the track, managing to secure a second (Cullen) and third place (Struan), with 100th of a second separating them.
Cullen received Provincial Colours and South African Colours for 2017, and Struan received his Provincial Colours.
The brothers will be sponsored by Giant in 2018 and look forward to the upcoming season.
