Jason Gilliver crowned Northern KZN Open Champion
The best performance by a Dundee player was Kevin Donaldson who won the second place prize for the best net score after 36 holes in the B division.
The 89th Northern Natal Open Golf championship sponsored by Farmers Agri-Care was played on Sunday at Dundee Country Club and attracted 67 golfers from around the province with the top 20 players all playing off a handicap of 2 or better.
Leading the field at lunchtime after the first 18 holes when shooting a three under par 68 was James Mott from Newcastle but, unfortunately, he battled in the afternoon after recording a six over par 77.
After the regulatory 36 holes, there were three players who finished on 145, three over par for the day which led to a play-off between Jason Gilliver playing out of Selbourne C.C., Elvis Sithebe from Newcastle and Koenie Erasmus from Umhlali C.C.
After all three players made par on the first playoff hole, Koenie Erasmus was the first player to be eliminated after hitting his second shot out of bounds. On the third extra hole, Elvis Sithebe was astonished to find his ball stuck up in a tree and was forced to take a penalty drop to end his challenge for the title as Jason Gilliver made an easy birdie four to be crowned the 2018 Northern Natal Open champion.

Saturday’s club competition was played in the I.P.S. format which saw three players scoring 39 individual points and winning the count out to win the first prize was Heinrich Meyer, followed by Billy Francis and John Zulu. Wynand Ackerman finished fourth on 38 points.
