Dynamic duo ready to work up a sweat in 2020
Looking to the New Year, the couple aims to worker harder and strive for more fitness excellence.
Aurora Els and Meldon Bezuidenhout sat down with the Newcastle Advertiser to speak more about their fitness journey, leading up to the latest show Summer Super Bodies, in which both participated in last year (December 7).
The Johannesburg contest featured 400 different athletes from across South Africa.
“We both were very happy with our results, as the adrenaline was running high. We had no idea how things were going to turn out; there were so many athletes performing and we worried that we wouldn’t even have an opportunity to perform,” said Aurora.
She placed fifth out of 18 women in the category Fitness Bikini: “I was in absolute shock when my number was called out, but also very humbled, because I know what it takes to get to your best condition in this sort of sport; it requires a lot of sacrifice.”

Meldon placed third out of 14 athletes in the category Open Body building and explained he fell ill on the day of the event and was not too sure if things would go smoothly.
“I accepted the fact that I was not going to perform to the best of my abilities, but to my surprise things had taken a turn for the better.”

Looking towards the New Year, the couple aims to worker harder and strive for fitness excellence through training and keeping on track with healthy eating. Both Aurora and Meldon plan on competing in events during the course of the year.
“This year, I plan on taking part in the Arnold Classic Africa show ,which will take place around May 15 to 17 , and from there just work my way up as much as possible,” added Aurora.
The couple provided a few tips and guidelines for anyone interested in pursuing their fitness this year:
- Strive to be as consistent as possible, and push through the difficult times. At the end of the day, you will thank yourself.
- Aim to push yourself to the best of your abilities, whether it be in the gym or eating healthily.
- Do not be too hard on yourself. Becoming a healthier and stronger version of yourself does take time.
- Always be supportive of friends and family who start their fitness journey. A little encouragement can go a long way.
