DUNDEE KZN: Wrestling warriors show true grit
He thanked Orange Grove for their support and said the KZN Wrestling fraternity sees Orange Grove as a role model.
Nollie Brown and Os de Wet have been declared KZN Wrestlers of the Year. Despite a tough 2020, where no wrestling could take place because of the Covid-19 restrictions, these local wrestlers have been keeping fit and were eager to participate in last week’s prize-giving ceremony, hosted by Orange Grove.
Orange Grove have been the official sponsors of KZN Wrestling since 2010 and have supported the sport over the past 25 years.
Six young wrestlers received trophies at last week’s ceremony, hosted by Sue Durham of Orange Grove, with all the relevant Covid-19 protocols in place.
Ricardo and Carlos Giammello, Nollie and Tion Brown, Os de Wet and Dawie van der Linde all received trophies for their efforts on the wrestling mat.
“These six young warriors all managed to win the KZN League for three consecutive years: 2018, 2019 and 2020,” said Steven Brown, chairman of KZN Wrestling. He thanked Orange Grove for their support and said the KZN Wrestling fraternity sees Orange Grove as a role model.
“This year, Covid-19 arrived and again Orange Grove weathered the storm (just like the devastating fire of 2019) to be stronger than ever. Wrestlers also go through tough times and sometimes have to stand up again to become a champion like Orange Grove.”
He added that it is ‘thanks to the development programme. supported by Orange Grove, that has made KZN Wrestling a force to be reckoned with’.
For her part, Mrs Durham said it was always a pleasure to support the young people of the area and it was wonderful to see them excel in their sport.
