NEWCASTLE KZN: Newcastle Highlanders claims victory against Volksrust teams
Newcastle Highlanders will kick off the Premier League against Middelburg on May 29 at the Arbor Park Sports Grounds.
On Saturday, May 22, the Newcastle Highlanders Rugby Club left Volksrust beaming from ear to ear after dominating their opponents on the rugby field.
According to Head Coach, Andrê Swanepoel, both his first and second team performed exceptionally well, walking away with scores of 38-10 and 90-7.
“In the main match, our first team was too strong, leading 54-7 by halftime. Thereafter they effectively scored 14 tries, ensuring they won 90-7,” said Swanepoel.
After last weekend’s (May 15) game, Swanepoel said coaching staff had decided to make some changes to their practice methods.
“The players executed these changes well, which is what made their support play as well as their offloads too strong for Volksrust to defeat them.”
Minnie Siwaze (10) scored 30 points, while Wings, Leto Mandla (11) and Sifiso Gumede (14) scored eight. The forwards created good opportunities so the backline could score tries.
A special mention must go to the following payers for displaying excellent sportsmanship out on the field:

This match, according to Swanepoel, was also great preparation for the Newcastle Highlanders who would be kicking off the Premier League against Middelburg on Saturday, May 29 at the Arbor Park Sports Grounds at 3.30pm.
