Vryheid parkrun delivers exciting 5km results

Ncube returns to win as juniors and milestones shine.

The Vryheid parkrun saw another lively turnout on Saturday, with participants of all ages challenging themselves on the 5km course.

Ncube makes winning return

Nhlanhla Ncube made a memorable return, arriving four minutes after the start, greeting finish line volunteers, and then going on to claim the top spot. “It was great to have Nhlanhla back with us,” said one volunteer.

Junior runners impress

The junior runners also impressed. Izelda Meyer, the first official junior and first female finisher, smashed her personal best by two minutes, crossing the line in an excellent 28:03. An unregistered young boy also delivered a standout performance among the juniors.

Visitors and pacer debut

The event welcomed several first-timers and visitors, including five ladies from Secunda, who enjoyed the morning’s run. Regular participants and volunteers continue to make Vryheid parkrun a vibrant and welcoming community event.

Saturday also marked the debut of the local 30-minute pacer, Antony, whose presence helped runners gauge their pace. The initiative is expected to continue at future events, providing more opportunities for participants to target personal milestones.

Personal bests and milestones

Personal achievements were celebrated across the field, with 14 runners recording personal bests, from leaders to those near the tail of the pack. Congratulations went to Mamush, Izelda, Puseletso, Halley, David, Ayanda, Ronnique, Deana, Gcinekile, Sonja, Sphindile, Christian, Johannes, and Sihlobile.

Special milestones were also acknowledged. Manfred Duvel reached his 50th parkrun event, and Ntando Ndlovu earned applause for running alongside her two children, earning the title of the day’s superhero.

Vryheid parkrun continues to be a hub of fitness, camaraderie, and personal achievement every Saturday morning.
