Vryheid Women launches breast cancer awareness initiative

Women’s Manyano launches a wellness desk to promote health awareness, breast cancer screening and community well-being.

The Vryheid Circuit Women’s Manyano, under the leadership of president Mrs Lonke Gxamza, has officially launched a wellness desk aimed at promoting health awareness and supporting the well-being of women and the wider community.

Wellness desk launched to support community health

The launch recently took place during an informative Women’s Wellness Day and Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, which brought together church mothers, Young Women’s Manyano (YWM) members and community members for a day dedicated to health education and wellness.

The newly established wellness desk is intended to serve as a permanent health support structure within the Vryheid Women’s Manyano and the wider circuit, ensuring that health awareness remains an ongoing priority.

Healthcare professionals lead wellness education

The programme featured a line-up of healthcare professionals and wellness experts who addressed various health issues affecting both women and men.

Dr Nompumelelo Ntshangase delivered the keynote presentation on breast cancer, educating attendees about the disease, its early signs and symptoms, as well as the importance of regular screening and early detection.

Breast self-examination highlights early detection

Her presentation was followed by a practical demonstration of breast self-examination by Dr Brenda Motau, equipping women with valuable skills to help them identify potential warning signs and seek medical attention when necessary.

Wellness advocate encourages balanced lifestyles

Sports wellness strategist and wellness advocate Miss Zukiswa Mabunjwa encouraged the attendees to embrace holistic wellness and strive for a balanced lifestyle.

The educational sessions were complemented by an energising aerobics session led by instructor Mrs Mbali Sangweni, giving participants an opportunity to put the day’s wellness message into practice through physical activity.

Gxamza thanks participants and contributors

Mrs Gxamza then concluded with the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the speakers, participants and everyone who contributed to the success of the event.

As a gesture of gratitude, the wellness team presented all the guests with tokens of appreciation.
