Newcastle played host to the first provincial wrestling tournament for this year.

On February 8, provincial teams incorporating Dundee, Vryheid, Richards Bay, Volksrust and Newcastle competed at the competition, held at the Drakensberg Primary School hall.

Wrestlers ranged from three years, to 20 years old.

Representatives of KwaZulu-Natal Wrestling thanked their main sponsors for contributing towards their organisation and the future of young athletes.

Next on the calendar is the provincial wrestling open championships later in the year.

At this tournament, explained KZN Wrestling’s KleinJan Combrinck, wrestlers from across the country will attend this competition in an attempt to pin down a gold medal.
