Storm Veenstra’s plucky performance
Storm received her bronze medal at the prize giving and was delighted when she was called up as a reserve for the SA Schools team
Treverton Preparatory‘s grade seven tennis star, Storm Veenstra represented the KwaZulu-Natal A tennis team who attended the SA Schools interprovincial tennis tournament held in Bloemfontein during the Easter holidays.
16 provincial teams attended this tournament with the top junior players from around the country. The first stage of the tournament was a round robin where KZN played against a very strong Boland A team, Mpumalanga and the Boland B team.
KZN won all their matches convincingly and progressed into the section with the top eight teams from around the country. KZN won their quarter final matchup against Border with Storm contributing nicely to KZN’s points with a 6-2, 6-2 singles win.

KZN then lost in the semi-finals to a tough Western Province team, which led to them having to fight for a medal in the third and fourth playoff match.
This was a very competitive meeting against an always strong Free State team, with both teams desperate to earn a bronze medal. KZN played exceptionally well and managed to win this exciting match up against some very highly ranked Free State players.
This tournament also served as trials for the South African Schools tennis team that will tour America in August. Storm received her bronze medal at the prize giving and was delighted when she was called up as a reserve for the SA Schools team. Storm will be notified at the beginning of May if there are any girls unable to make the tour. We hold thumbs that she will be given this incredible opportunity.
