It used to be Vryheid’s favourite recreation area; it’s the Paddadam at the northern end of Park Street, which used to be fished by boys and where the playground apparatus was in good and safe condition. Years ago, the reeds began their encroachment, and now have virtually choked the upper reaches of the little dam. Then, the thinking was that the dam would have to be drained and an excavator would have to be used to extract the thicket of reeds. Now, the AbaQulusi Residents Association has got behind the revitalisation of the dam. It will be great if their endeavours are successful.
