Proudly South African plane tours the world
During July and August 2009 the fellow pilots and businessmen flew their production prototype plane, Sling 2, around the world.
Forty days of flying took Mike Blyth and James Pitman around the world in a proudly South-African, two-seater light aircraft.
Mr Blyth and Mr Pitman are the founders of a company called The Airplane Factory, based in Johannesburg. The company designs and produces light aircraft, right here in SA.
During July and August 2009 the fellow pilots and businessmen flew their production prototype plane, Sling 2, around the world. Naturally, via EAA Oshkosh in Wisconsin, US, the largest airshow in the world.
This was the first time an aircraft of this type had circumnavigated the globe, flying numerous legs totalling more than 3 600km over the world’s oceans.
The Newcastle Flying Club has invited Mike Blyth to present a video of their trip at their year end function on November 27. The event will take place at the Newcastle Club from 6.30pm, with demo flights available in the afternoon.
