Dannhauser local set for national pageant

Glitz, glamour and serious good looks. What does it take to win a pageant? More importantly, what does it take to win a male pageant?

Sumeeth Bhugwandin is a Dannhauser local, with his heart set on top honours at the Mr India South Africa event. He knows what it takes to win.

“I have been taking part in competitions since I was young. I am used to the environment,” explained Sumeeth. “I am never overconfident. You have to feel good about yourself to do well. But never be overconfident.”

Sumeeth, who was born and raised in Dannhauser, is competing against top candidates from all around the country. He is currently an apprentice electrical engineer, with plans to make it big in the male pageant world.

“In ten years I see myself as a qualified engineer. I want to build a good platform for myself as I hope to one day enter Mr South Africa. That will be my ultimate goal,” he continued.

He also wants to raise awareness about male pageants; the charity work in the background, as well as the opportunities for young men interested in modelling.

“I am very proud to be an Indian. I love the life, the tradition and the colour. My presentation is quite good. I am not overconfident, but I feel good about it,” he added.

Despite his small town upbringing, Sumeeth is not intimidated. He says the fact that he grew up in a small town taught him a lot about being humble, and to work hard to get what you want.

“All the credit must go to Ms Erasmus, my teacher. She is the one that gave me the confidence in myself that I have today. She also taught me to always support others, especially the disadvantaged,” he concluded.
