I was appointed editor of the Advertiser almost two months ago and so far, things have been a whirlwind! From deadlines to making sure the community enjoys the same quality every week, I have loved every single minute of it.
As a self-confessed (albeit recent) workaholic, here are a few things I’ve noticed:
- We spend altogether too much time in the pursuit of cramming massive amounts of work into short days – where do we draw the line? A skipped lunch break or two won’t harm you in the short term, but taking breaks will give you balance.
- Life is short – as most of us know. Take the time to appreciate each day and each other.
- Panic and stress – these words have become synonymous with ‘life’. What can we do to cut down? Prioritise and realise that not only can’t you be everywhere at once, but no-one expects you to do everything either.
- And finally (one of my favourites) a quote from our Mayor, Afzul Rehman: “You can’t please everyone all the time.” Do your best and go to sleep each night knowing that you have done all you can.
Take the time to appreciate life – you only have one.
At Caxton, every story is written by humans. We use AI only to perform quality checks - never to generate the news. Happy reading!
