Iconic shows on the ‘box’
Television has shaped lives since the dawn of the so-called tube.
The invention of the television set is widely attributed to Scotsman, John Logie Baird.
While the inner workings of the device combine a number of complex processes, humans’ fascination with television is instead reflected on what is ‘on the tube’.
Almost all people love various series for various reasons.
Here, we take a trip down memory lane to highlight a few of the most iconic TV shows of all time:
Father Ted
Focusing on the lives of three priests and a housekeeper living on a remote Irish island, this series set itself at the forefront of television sitcom through its hilarity.
Where else could one witness oddities interspersed with the since-introduced word ‘feck’?
Highlights of the series likely include Father Ted offending the Chinese residents by accidentally masquerading as Hitler, and the apparent death of the revolting Father Jack.
Sadly, the death of Dermot Morgan certainly ended the show in its prime.
Frasier
Frasier makes this list for breaking the regular television mould, relying on cleverness to generate laughter.
A familiar face from the ever-popular series Cheers, Frasier Crane’s move to a new city and the introduction of his oddball family made for the most successful spin-off series of all time.
The antics of Frasier, Niles, Martin and the gang came to an end in 2004, but are as hilarious as ever.
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
Forget Miami, New York and where ever next the latest series will occur, the original Las Vegas based series is where the fascination with solving crimes earned its place in TV history.
In its 14-year run, the show has gripped, mystified, thrilled and haunted its devoted audiences.
Highlights of the series should include the death of Warrick Brown at the hands of crooked Undersheriff, Jeffrey McKeen, and the horrifying Nate Haskell/Raymond Langston arc.
Sadly, the show has been marred somewhat with questionable plot lines and outrageous crime solving methods.
Quantum Leap
During the late 80s and early 90s, enraptured audiences would sit in front of the TV to watch Sam Beckett leap into the role of historical figures throughout the ages.
Tasked with making things right, the show’s very futuristic concepts were the key to its success.
Among highlights of the series, Sam Beckett leapt into the body of Stephen King to defeat Satan, and attempted to halt the assassination of former American president, John F Kennedy through his killer, Lee Harvey Oswald.
